Happy Birthday

When I was little, my parents used to say, "You can pick a present under the tree and open it on your birthday." I said, "That is not right. That means I will have one less present for Christmas." They would look down at me and smile which basically meant, "Take it or leave it!"
Little did I know that they would add another gift at the end so it was even between my brother and I. All was well.

Yes, I was a brat and still am. But I am glad I was born and on this day, I take time out for me and really celebrate my past, present and future. And my future, by all indications, is looking great.

Bring on the new year 2010. I am ready for you.... so ready!

To all the Sagittarians out there: Happy Birth Month!
And playing on the beer guitar...Happy Birthday of course!

One of my brothers was born on Christmas Eve. As someone from a huge family, we've always drawn names for X-mas. One year--a decree went out--we would give socks as a gift. Yes, socks. Hosiery. I'd always felt the guy got shafted in the gift dept, anyway (hosed, if you will.) So that year I bought JM head covers (for his golf clubs) Socks. I also threw in a new golf bag. It also ended the charade of gag gifts. We now donate as a family to a charity of choice.

Thanks Error...
Matter of fact, my parents still give me a present even though it is usually a check. But for Christmas we, as a small and mighty family, choose a charity or cause to which to donate.
I miss the "hunt" and excitement of watching someone open the gift I researched and found to bring them joy. And I miss the anticipation of what may be revealed to me by way of gifts. But bottom line, it is the season of giving and giving to the needy is what it really is about...

Happy belated birthday, Savannah. I am a Christmas baby too -- December 27, in my case. Which, alas, makes me a Capricorn. My little brother David, born on December 8 the very year after me (yes, eleven+ months later!), is a Sagitarius, though.
