TWENTY-THREE

1978
Friends/Family:
Mrs. C

This was Mrs. C. in her home at Christmas.
Kay, who I later renamed to Sam for some reason, became my best friend. She was in her mid 50's and we got along so well. She got me hooked on "Days of Our Lives" and I would meet her in the family room after class so we could watch together. On weekends, she would make me breakfast and bring it to my room. She had a little dog, Sherman, and he loved me. He would sneak up in the middle of the night and crawl into bed with me. Sam and I were inseparable and looked out for each other. I would mow her lawn, shovel snow and take care of things around the house and she would make me meals and do my laundry. We had a nice little system. I truly loved her. She was my second mom.

I have met two people in my life who knew what unconditional love really meant. One was Midge Costanza and the other was Kay Carr, otherwise known as Sam. I miss them terribly.
